Where to find Mexican ingredients

Here we’ve listed the essential Mexican ingredients used in the Taco Feast Cochinita Workshop and where to find them, to make cooking from the recipes as easy as possible

Soft corn tortillas

  • We recommend our friends at Taiyari Tortilleria just outside Amsterdam. They make delicious corn tortillas (as well as great ‘totopos’) and offer home delivery via their web shop.

    • You’ll only need to heat them up for about 10 seconds on each side on a griddle plate or dry frying pan, or of course a Mexican ‘comal’ if you’ve got one! They also freeze well in case you want to stock up

  • Another option if in the UK is La Fonda fresh tortillas at Mexgrocer
  • If you want to make your own tortillas from scratch, you will need ‘Maseca’ which is corn flour made from dried ground corn. You can find this in Mexgrocer’s webshop

Dried chillies - e.g. Chilli Arbol

  • Westland Peppers in South Holland has a great selection of dried and fresh chilli peppers, with delivery throughout the Netherlands and many parts of Europe. On Saturdays, you can also do tours of their greenhouses and discover all their exciting pepper varieties

  • Another good option is Mexgrocer which also delivers widely across Europe, including the UK

Achiote (annatto paste)

  • You can order achiote paste from Megrocer or otherwise find it in speciality international food shops like Tijn’s Tokyo and in wholesalers, such as Sligro and Hanos

If you have any other questions about ingredients used or cookware, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Have fun and '¡Buen Provecho¡'
